Every team has been given two injured list (IL) spots. When a player has missed 3 games in a row, they are eligible for the IL. When you place a player on the IL, you can drop them on Yahoo, freeing up a roster space while the player is injured, and all other teams are not allowed to pick the injured player up as you own their rights. You can only put two players on the IL at a time, so if you have three or more injured players, tough luck.
As soon as any player on the IL plays just one game, they are taken off the IL. After a player is activated from the IL, the team that owns the player has 48 hours to pick him up (unless they are listed as away in the Vacation Board). A post will be made when a player has been activated from the IL so the team that owns him knows to add the player. Make sure to check that thread frequently so you don't accidently lose a good player coming off the IL. The 48 hours will begin at 12:00 AM (midnight) Eastern Time of the night that the player plays their first game off the IL, unless the player isn't posted that night in which case the 48 hours begin when the player has been posted to have been activated from the IL.
If a team doesn't pick up a player activated from the IL after 48 hours, they are placed on waivers for 48 hours. Since the player would be listed as a free agent on Yahoo, waiver claims will take place on the forum. A thread with the player on waivers will be opened, and any team that wants to claim the player will reply in the thread. The waiver priority for players activated off the IL is the same for regular waiver players, so if you claim a player activated from the IL, you will lose your regular waiver priority as well. After 48 hours, the team with the highest priority of the teams that put in a claim will win the rights to the player and will have their waiver priority dropped to #12. The team that successfully claimed the player must add him on Yahoo within 48 hours, or he will be rewarded to the team with the second highest waiver priority of the teams who put in a claim. If you have two injured players and you wanna switch the player you have on the IL, you have to add the player you took off the IL within 48 hours or you will lose his rights and he will be placed on waivers as well.
Please note that just because a player is activated from the IL, it doesn't mean you can add them right away. Only the team that owns the player can pick him up for 48 hours, then after that period there's 48 more hours where the player is on waivers and no one can add him. Therefore the player is not a free agent to be picked up by anyone until he clears waivers 96 hours after he was activated from the IL. If you accidently pick up a player on the IL or who was just activated from the IL, he will be dropped from your team.
If you place an injured player on the IL and drop him before he misses three straight games, the transaction will be reversed on Yahoo and you will have lost two of your moves (one for dropping him and one for having to pick him up again). This only applies if you attempt to place the player on the IL; if you're dropping the player just because you don't want him then the transaction won't be reversed.
At the beginning of each season, every team will designate any 4 players of their choice to be their "franchise players". Two of those players will be "1st tier" franchise players, and the other two will be "2nd tier" franchise players.
Upon coming off the injured list, 1st tier franchise players are protected for a week as opposed to just 48 hours. If they still aren't picked up (for some reason) then the player will be placed on waivers (on the forum) and the team that claims the player (with the highest priority) will give up a 1st round pick to the team that lost the player as compensation. If the claiming team doesn't have a 1st round pick, they would have to give up their 3rd round pick plus their 1st round pick from the following season instead. If they don't have a 3rd round pick, it would be a 2nd and next year's 1st. If they don't have a 2nd either, they would lose the claim to the next highest priority (so claim just incase even if someone higher has claimed with these guys).
When 2nd tier franchise players come off the IL, they are only protected for the 2 days before being placed on waivers. If they aren't picked up after the 48 hours, then the player will be placed on waivers (on the forum) and the team that claims the player (with the highest priority) will give up a 2nd round pick to the team that lost the player as compensation. If the claiming team doesn't have a 2nd round pick, they would have to give up their 1st round pick. If they don't have a 1st round pick, they would have to give up their 4th round pick plus their 1st round pick from the following season instead. If they don't have a 4th, it would be a 3rd and next year's 1st. If they don't have a 3rd either, they would lose the claim to the next highest priority (so claim these guys too just incase).
All non-franchise players have to be picked up within 48 hours from when they come off the IL, or they will be place on waivers with no compensation if they are claimed. If a team claims a franchise player and has multiple picks in the round(s) they need to give, they may select which pick they wish to give for compensation.
To prevent teams from constantly changing their franchise players, franchise players can can only be altered 3 times in a season (that means from the beginning of the regular season to the end of the playoffs). There will be a thread open in the "Injured List" board which lists franchise players, and another thread to make changes to your franchise players. One change can consist of as many alterations as desired (i.e. changing 1st tier players to 2nd tier and vice versea, or designating a new franchise player while removing one of your current franchise players from franchise status). However, all desired changed must be made at once, so pick the right time to make changes and post them all at once.
A player who is not a franchise player can't be changed to a franchise player if he is in the 2 day period after coming off the IL, or while the player is on waivers after coming off the IL. Similarly, a player who is a franchise player can't be changed from 2nd to 1st tier (or vice versea), or have his franchise status removed when he is in the 2/7 day period or when he is on waivers after coming off the IL. This will prevent a team making an average player one of their franchise players a they're coming off the IL pick up the compensation.
If a team doesn't post their franchise players at the beginning of the season before the designated deadline, that team will lose one of their 3 changes and have their 4 keepers automatically designated as their franchise players.
